Why Use a Travel Advisor
Wanderlust Travelby Heather Smith Let's Plan
Why use a travel advisor?

The internet can sell you a trip. It can't pick up the phone!

You could absolutely plan it yourself. You could also cut your own hair. Working with me means real expertise, real relationships, and a real person who has your back from the first idea until you're home unpacking the souvenirs!

What you get

Why working with me just makes sense!

Every trip I plan, I plan like I'm going on it myself, because a lot of the time, I already have!

Usually costs you nothing extra

Resorts, cruise lines and tour companies pay me a commission (because I sell dreams!), so in most cases you pay the same or less than you'd find on your own, and you get a whole lot more for it!

Relationships you can't click on

I know the people behind the front desk, the sales managers and the cruise reps. When I call, they know who I am, and that changes what's possible for you.

Someone in your corner

Delayed flight, wrong room, a resort that isn't what you were promised. You reach out and I start fixing it while you go get a drink!

Firsthand, not filtered

I've been to the resorts, sailed the ships and walked the ports. When I haven't, someone I trust has. No paid review sites, no guessing from stock photos.

Hours of your life back

Skip the 47 open tabs and the 2 a.m. comparison spreadsheet. Tell me what you want and what you don't, and I'll bring you options that actually fit.

The details you'd never think of

Transfer timing, passport rules, which room category is worth the upgrade, what to pack. I sweat the small stuff so you show up and just enjoy it!

Advisor, not agent

Please don't call me an agent!

"Travel agent" leaves a bad taste in a lot of people's mouths, and honestly, I get it.

An agent

Reserves your trip and moves on to the next one. Once it's secured, you're pretty much on your own.

An advisor

Tells you the things you don't know, because I've seen them or done them myself. I plan around you, look out for you before, during and after your trip, and I'm still here when you get home.

It's not who you know, it's what you know!

And when I travel, I meet a lot of people. I have absolute GEMS all over the world, and I'm constantly adding to my list of personal connections.

Need a driver in CancĂșn?
A tour guide in Paris?
The funniest horse and driver duo in Dublin?
Someone at the resort who can make it right?
The inside scoop on your ship or port?

I know a guy! (Or a gal.)

Scam-free travel

Fake travel sites are everywhere. I'm not one of them!

There are TONS of sites out there that will happily take your money, with deals that look too good to be true because they are. A dream vacation is a sizable investment, and getting scammed is a sure way to ruin the mood before you ever pack a bag.

With me, you know exactly who you're working with. I'm a real person, a registered Florida Seller of Travel partnered with Gateway Travel, and I only reserve your trip through trusted platforms. You can reach out and ask me anything, and your money goes where it's supposed to.

Red flags to watch for

  • Prices way below what everyone else is showing
  • Pressure to pay right now or lose the deal
  • Paying by wire transfer, gift cards or a payment app
  • No phone number and no real person to talk to
  • Lookalike sites using a resort's name and photos

When you work with me

  • A real advisor you can reach out to anytime
  • Licensed and partnered with Gateway Travel
  • Trusted platforms only
  • Help right away if anything goes wrong
Trip protection

Travel insurance, the boring thing that saves the day!

Nobody plans on a twisted ankle, a hurricane or a missed connection, but they happen. When you reserve, I'll walk you through your protection options in plain English and help you pick the plan that fits your trip.

Yes, these really happened!

Every one of these happened to me or one of my wanderers, and the list goes on and on! Travel advisors swap these stories whenever we get together. It's one of those industry insider things.

Hit a deer on the way to the airport
Slipped, fell and needed stitches (more than once!)
Rerouted so many times it ended in a $600 (plus tip!) middle-of-the-night Uber home to another state
Flight delayed three days in another country with no other way home
Landed in the hospital in another state the day before a cruise
Flight delayed two days, so rented a car and drove 1,000 miles to make it back for work

Primary vs. supplemental

Do you know the difference? Most people don't! Your health plan may cover little or nothing once you leave the country, and credit card coverage can be minimal and require lots of paperwork you might not be able to get.

Why I recommend third-party plans

I usually recommend an independent, third-party travel insurance plan over the one offered when you buy your trip, and I'll help you find the right one. The plan offered at checkout is often tied, at least a little, to the company selling you the trip. In my experience, those huge companies can bury you in paperwork until you get frustrated and give up.

Help when you need it

If something happens, I'll take you as far as I can. I'll help you get the forms you need, talk you through any questions and help get answers to anything that's unclear!

Right at your fingertips

Your plan information lives right on your trip page, so it's handy wherever you are.

Real trip, real save

What happened when Ally and Jenny hit a snag

Travel doesn't always go to plan! On day two of their trip, one of them slipped, took a tumble and needed stitches. Nobody's fault, though. The culprit was her own gorgeous, giant rock of a wedding ring!

By the time they were settled in a cab to the hospital, I was already working with their travel insurance provider to gather everything they'd need, so they didn't have to worry about a thing when they got there and could focus on the care they needed.

Then I called my contact at the resort brand, who put me straight on a hotline with the resort staff. Ally and Jenny were already in a VERY nice upgraded club room, but the team went above and beyond to make sure the rest of their stay was as comfortable and wonderful as it could be. I checked in with the staff and with Ally and Jenny every day to make sure everything was going well and to see if they needed anything.

They had nothing but wonderful things to say about how the staff treated them, before and after the fall. That's what having someone in your corner looks like!

Things people ask me

Isn't it cheaper to do it myself online?

Usually not, since the travel companies pay my commission. The difference is that with me, someone's watching out for you the whole time.

Are travel advisors still a thing?

Very much so, and for good reason. The more choices there are online, the harder it gets to know what's actually good. Think of me as the friend who's already been there and will tell you the truth about it.

Is my trip too small to bother you with?

Nope. A long weekend for two gets the same attention as a 30-person group. If you're excited about it, so am I!

Am I protected?

I'm a registered Florida Seller of Travel and partnered with Gateway Travel, so you're working with a licensed professional, not a random person on the internet.

Let me be your person on the inside

Have a destination in mind, or no idea at all? Either way, we'll figure it out together!
